Edinboro Rocking Two Piece At Home Dual
Edinboro Rocking Two Piece At Home Dual
Edinboro University wore a two piece wrestling uniform Saturday in their dual against Pitt
One of the hot topics in wrestling, especially over the last few years, has been whether or not to ditch the singlet. Edinboro University has become the latest Division 1 program to adopt a two-piece uniform and, contrary to most wrestling purist's belief, the heavens did not open and the ghost of Doug Blubaugh did not smite the Fighting Scots for their heresy.
Although the college wrestling world is very used to seeing athletes in singlets this is not ground breaking stuff. The sport has been in the midst of dragging itself away from the singlet for the last 15 or so years. I can remember watching division 3 power The College Of New Jersey wear what they called Doublets in 2007-08 which consisted of compression tops and bottoms. Missouri and Lehigh also wrestled a dual in January of 2005 at the New York Athletic Club wearing compression gear.
Edinboro donned similar apparel this weekend at their home dual with red and white striped compressions.
Although Edinboro should be credited with cracking the singlet mold, FloWrestling events are still the only events brazen enough to wear fight shorts during major competition. Both Who's Number One and Flonationals have their athletes wear a combination of compression tops and fight shorts.
Be sure to tune in this Saturday at 3 p.m. EST to see if 'Boro pulls these out again for their match with in-state rival Lehigh.
Projected Lineups:
