Former #1 Ranked Lance Benick Leaves Arizona State University
Lance Benick, the former No. 1-ranked 195-pounder in the country, is no longer with the ASU wrestling team.
Arizona State coach Zeke Jones' banner recruiting class of 2015 just took a bit of a blow.
Lance Benick, the former No. 1-ranked 195-pounder in the country, is no longer with the ASU wrestling team. While details are hard to come by at this point, what is certain is that Benick's time in Tempe, Arizona is at an end after a lackluster redshirt freshman season.
With Arizona State set to roll much of its recruiting class this year, Benick's departure leaves the Sun Devils with a sizable hole at 197.
The Sun Devils will now likely look to Sullivan Cauley, a redshirt sophomore from Reno, Nevada, to man the spot. The ASU room is full of senior-level talent, having recently added Nahshon Garrett to the mix with Jordan Oliver and Haslan Garcia. Additionally, the Sun Devils are waiting on the eligibility decision for former Northwestern NCAA champion Jason Tsirtsis. He could slot in this year or next at 149 or 157.
There has been no word yet on Benick's future wrestling plans or potential transfer destinations.
