86kg, 125kg Preview | Brackets And Upcoming Bout

Medal Matches: Akgul taking on Ghasemi now and Ghasemi goes on the shot clock. Caution and 1 and Akgul's up 1-0, 2 minutes in. Akgul shoots from space and gets smashed underneath. 1-0 after 1. Back underway and now Ghasemi goes on the clock and it's 2-0.  Then a step out off a single for Akgul makes it 3-0. Shot by Ghasemi and it's all but over.  That's the final, 3-1 Akgul is the Olympic Champ!

Tervel time!!! Just like his semis match, Tervel gets taken down and gutted four times. Tremendous career for Tervel. He will be a heck of a coach one day.

First bronze medal match. Levan Berianidze (ARM) vs Ibrahim Saidau (BLR). Berianidze takes the lead on a shot clock point. Saidau gets the first takedown in a very slow match. Armenia gets a stepout but loses on criteria. Saidau gives Belarus a bronze medal.

Break here for the medals and we get to see J'Den get the first men's freestyle medal of these Games!

Sadulaev is up. We could be seeing the start of a historic run here. World finals rematch between Sadulaev (RUS) and Yasar (TUR). And here he goes doing Sadulaev things. Up 5-0 after a shot clock, single and lefty gut. Lots of blood time here for Yasar. No points in the second, but Saduleav becomes Olympic gold medalist. He runs around with both the flag of Russia and the flag of Dagestan.

J'Den time!! This will be a huge one against multiple time world medalist Salas Perez of Cuba. Salas was world silver in 2013 and 2014, but did not wrestle in the London Games. Cox can't keep a hold of Salas' leg on his first single attempt. Tremendous scramble there. Cox went low single, almost got crotch locked, but used his ankle to block off. Salas goes on the clock. Dicey there as they got in another scramble, but J'Den leads 1-0. No leg attacks from Salas, but J'Den avoided multiple counters and crotch locks. Passive against J'Den. First leg attack from Salas, but Cox goes on the clock at 4:55. The clock ends up lasting a full minute. Cox shoots, Salas fights out but J'Den continues to hold on, work up, an was in on a double but they finally blow it dead. USA challenges and GETS IT! SIX SECONDS LEFT. Salas refuses to come out, so that's it. Forfeit and Cox wins bronze!!! J'Den running around the mat with a flag, goes into the crowd to hug his mom. J'Den Cox is 21 years old, has a year of NCAA eligibility left an sits in the world team trials finals next year. Wow. What a run for this young man, and it all started with a tweet saying he wanted to drop to 86kg.

Things will kick off with Ceballos (VEN) vs Sharifov (AZE). Ceballos gets warned for passivity early. Ceballos almost ankle picks but can't get it. Ceballos goes on shot clock. Gives up point and it's 1-0 Sharifov. Period ends but Ceballos was very offensive. Ceballos leading 1-1 on criteria with 90 seconds left. Wow, they put Ceballos on the clock with a minute left, but Sharifov hits a go behind and a gut wrench.

Repechage: Korey Jarvis up 4-0 on Egypt. The Canadian leading 5-0 heading into the break. Jarvis wins 7-0 and will have world No. 1 Petriashvili in his next repechage match.

Now we have Vereb and Ceballos Fuentes. Winner gets Olympic champ Sharifov for bronze. Vereb (HUN) picks up the first passive of the match. Ceballos leads 2-0 heading into the break. Ceballos leads 2-2 now on criteria after that go behind. Ceballos now leads 4-2 with a right side gut wrench. Great scrap here in this match, they trade takedowns and Ceballos leads 6-4 with a minute left. Vereb gets a takedown but trails on criteria. And that's the match! Ceballos of Venezuela is in the bronze medal match.

Rematch from Pan Ams now, and Espinal has on the best singlet so far of these Games. No leg attacks yet, but Salas Perez leads 1-0 on the shot clock point. As I say that, Salas Perez with a blast double into a gut wrench and leads 5-0. Nice whizzer D by Espinal, into a slideby that Salas fights off but Espinal body locks him to the mat for 4! These two are going at it, and Sals gets a stepout to make it 6-4. So we'll see J'Den Cox vs Reineris Salas Perez in the bronze medal match.

Chuulunbat (MGL) vs Saidau (BLR) to see who wrestles Beriandize for bronze. Chuulunbat leads 1-0 now after a shot clock point. Both have attempted leg attacks but haven't been able to finish. Single leg for Saidau ends in feet to back for four, up 4-1 with a minute left. It will be Belarus vs Armenia for bronze.

Time to find out who Tervel wrestles for bronze. In one corner is the Canadian lumberjack Korey Jarvis and in the other is Geno Petriashvili. Cross body single to Jarvis left leg and Geno leads 2-0. A shot clock point and Petriashvili leads 3-0 going into the second. Petriashvili does what he does and hits two more single legs to go up 7-0 with a minute left. But hey! Korey Jarvis finishes a low single of his own. Going for bronze will be Geno Petriashvili (GEO) vs Tervel.

Prelims: J'den will likely be the 5th match on B. Tervel is 7 out on b as well. J'den will take the winner of the current match on mat a which is Belarus v Kazakhstan. Mahamedu(Belarus) up 4-0 early. Back and forth bout but Mahamadu now up 10-5. 10-7 now for Mahamadu. Both guys completely exhausted. Have to feel good about J'den against the Mahamadu. 11-7 final.

Now Makhov against Zasieiev on mat a! Makhov digging underhooks early. Zasieiev on the clock and gives up 1. Makhov pursuing with over/under bodylock but can't score. 1 minute left in the 1st. Another shot clock point for Makhov and he leads 2-0. Meanwhile, Komeil Ghasemi wins a tight on 5-2 over Korey Jarvis. Takedown on the edge for Zasieiv! And the Ukrainian knock off the Russian Giant 2-2 on criteria! Zasieiv vs Petriashvili in the round of 16. Petriashvili beat Zasieiv 9-6 in the Euro semis earlier this year.

Sadulaev up on mat b! Ceballos Fuentes up 2-0 on Mat C, no score between Egypt and Tunisia on Mat A. Beautiful swing single to a gut wrench and Sadulaev leads 4-0 late in the first. Of note, Sad is wearing the same ankle brace we saw in a social media post earlier. No surprise, tech smash for Saduleav. Single to two guts and that's the match. Ceballos Fuentes up 6-0 now, and he will have Sadulaev in the quarters.

Aminashvili up against Baranowski. World silver Yasar vs Olympic silver Espinal on Mat C. Olympic champion on Mat A. Aminashvili leads 1-0 on the shot clock entering the break. MONSTER back arch for Sharifov to go up 4-0, good heavens. Baranowski up 2-1 now, and Sharifov gets another single. Lots of hammers on the mat. Another four for Sharifov, and that'll do it. Meanwhile, Yasar is up 3-0 on Espinal. Sharifov vs Baranowski in the semis.

Reineris Salas Perez up on Mat A now. J'Den is up! Time to roll on Mat B. J'Den doing a fantastic job holding center and Mahamedau refuses to engage. First passive 50 seconds in. Excellent rubber knee from J'Den, hits a go behind. Can't finish at first but we get a takedown on the edge! Oh my, J'Den looks excellent, double leg to a leg lace. He is feeling himself. Leg lace was waived off, but still leads 4-0 at the break. Solid foot movement in the first. Salas Perez got a pin in the other match. Stalemate on Mahamedau's shot and no points there. Uh, phantom point there for Belarus. J'Den goes front head to cross knee pick, and drive Mahamedau all the way across the mat for a stepout. Whizzer to standup to avoid the takedown for Cox. J'Den in a scramble and comes out on top, 7-1 lead. That's it, Cox is in the quarters.

Cox vs Karimi in the quarterfinals. Akgul moves on the quarters at 125kg. Saidau (BLR) vs Shabanbay (KAZ) on mat B. Zheng Diwei (CHN) vs Beriandze (ARM) on Mat C. Ligeti (HUN) wins by tech. Saidau up 5-0 and Beriandze moves on.

Tervel Dlagnev is up on Mat B! First passive goes against Magomedov 48 seconds in. Zasieiv up 2-0 on Petriashvili on the other mat. Tervel now gets a passive against him. Two minutes in and Tervel trails after that shot clock point. Petri answers with a snag single on Zasieiv's right leg to take the criteria lead. 1-0 in Tervel's match at the break. Magomedov shoots off the whistle, drives to the edge and gets the two. Another single finish for Petriasvhili and he leads 4-2 at the break. Magomedov gets a hold of the leg, and finishes for a 5-0 lead. Low single for Tervel, into a lace! He trails for 5-4 but the Azeri is hurt. Stalemate with 40 left. WHAT A FINISH! The old timer still has it in him, great single leg finish and he wins! He upsets the silver medalist from Vegas, what a match. Petriashvili finishes off Zasieiv and is into the quarters as well. Tervel will have Robert Baran of Poland in the quarters.

Ghasemi (IRI) up 7-0. Ghasemi vs Petriashvili quarter, that'll be a fun one. Sharifov vs Poland now on B. Sharifov trying to channel his inner Varner with those shoes, both were Olympic champions in 2012. Saduleav finally gets a stepout on his third shot against Ceballos Fuentes. Saduleav up 2-0 heading into the break, while Sharifov leads 3-0. Sharifov finishes on the edge for another two. Ceballos Fuentes on the clock again, Saduleav has had trouble finishing shots this match and has switched to head taps. Shot by Ceballos, Sad goes crotch lock and Ceballos somehow turns on his head to avoid the exposure, 3-0 Saduleav while Sharifov leads 7-0. Sadulaev finally finishes a shot.

J'Den is up!! Heading to Mat B against Karimi, and J'Den is clearly singing. J'Den with the single leg, drives to the edge and looks like a takedown but they only give one for stepout. J'Den forces a stalemate off a classic Iranian undertook, grounded whizzer position. Grounded out of bounds, no points with 30 left. Karimi with the single and drives Cox out as the period ends. No Passives, Karimi leads 1-1 on criteria. Yasar up 3-0 at the break in the other quarter. Holy cow, he kicked his foot in front of Karimi to avoid the takedown and then counters quickly to lead 3-1. Way to keep wrestling for J'Den, single to double back to single and leads out 5-1. Cox forces another stalemate and leads 5-1 in the last minute. And J'Den Cox is in the semis! He will wrestle for a medal! His opponent will be last year's world silver Selim Yasar.

World champ Taha Akgul up on A against Belarus, and Berianidze (ARM) vs Ligeti (HUN) on Mat B. Akgul is burying this guy, 7-0 less than two minutes in. Typical Taha tech-smash, first period 11-0. Ligeti leads 1-0 at the break. Armenia will have Akgul in the semis.

Tervel is up on Mat A. 38 seconds in, first passive against Tervel. Gets in on the foot but Baran kicks out. Baron gets a passive against him 1:27 in. Tervel goes on the clock at 1:53. Tervel goes low single, can't finish but hangs on, lifts and drives through to the mat to go up 2-0. Tervel leading 2-0 at the break, while on the other side Petriashvili up 2-0 on Ghasemi. Re-attack from Tervel, nothing, but he continues to charge through and gets a stepout. Tervel is in the Olympic semis! And he'll have a familiar opponent in Komeil Ghasemi.

J'Den is up on B! Has Selim Yasar (TUR). Sadulaev doing Sadulaev things on Mat A, takedown to two guts and leads 6-0 over Sharifov. Cox stalemated the leg attack from Yasar. Sharifov gets a stepout but trails 6-1. Cox goes on the clock at 1:44. Yasar goes up 1-0 after the shot clock point. J'den in deep but can't finish the shot. Cox comes out feet moving in the second. Passive against Yasar. The Turk circles back but J'Den is like a dog on a bone after that and gets the stepout. Ref saying one of you is about to go on the clock, another takedown for Sadulaev. Yasar's leg defense is phenomenal. Sadulaev is in the Olympic finals after an 8-1 win over reigning Olympic champ Sharifov. J'Den is wrestling like he doesn't know he's losing. J'Den lost 1-1 on criteria. The difference in that match was the leg defense of Yasar.

Tervel is up on B against Ghasemi of Iran. Snap down for Ghasemi and it's 2-0, immediate guts and Ghasemi wins 10-0 in thirty seconds.
