Watch Live Prelims: Mat A | Mat B | Mat C  | Watch Repechage/Medal Matches

Medal Matches!

Starting with 85kg Bronze: Bayrakov of Bulgaria taking on Hamzatau of Belarus.  Caution and 2 for singlet grabbing, not Tsargush level so it gets sniffed out by officials.  Hamzatau takes the lead. We have a takedown!  Front headlock by Hamzatau makes it 4-0. 1 for Bayrakov for passivity makes it 4-1.  1 minute to go.  That's the final, Bronze for Hamzatau.

Now Lorincz takes on Kudla in the 2nd Bronze match at 85kg. 1 minute in and we're still scoreless. Now two minutes without a point. Lorincz goes under but doesn't get turned, still no score.  However, he gives up caution and two for reaching back?  Not sure but it's 2-0 Kudla after 1. Drag takedown for Lorincz and it's 2-2 but he still trails for cautions. Now another point makes it 3-2 Lorincz for passivity on Kudla. Kudla wins Bronze.

GOLD MEDAL MATCH: World champ Beleniuk vs Chakvatadze. 30 seconds in nothing going. Now 90 in, zero points. Beleniuk put down, Chakvatadze gets a chance on top and isn't turned.  Now Beleniuk on top. He gets the turn!  2-0 lead for the World Champ.  2nd period underway. Beleniuk going under again. It's 2-1 Beleniuk.  Caution and 2 for the Chakvatadze makes it 3-2 and he's back on top again. So they went caution and 2 and 2 more on the correct throw to make it 7-2.  Now 9-2 after a pair of step outs. Running out of time.  Match over!  Chakvatadze wins gold!

Time for Bronze 130!  Popp of Germany takes on Shariati of Azerbaijan. Shariati gets on top with the gut and takes him over for the pin!  Wow!  Challenge thrown, for whatever reason.  Call upheld, Shariati takes bronze.

Semenov takes on Nabi in the next bronze match. Underway now.  1:41 in and we're scoreless.  Nabi goes bottom but avoids the turn. Period ends. Now Semenov goes under. Still scoreless 4:20 in.  Now a point for Semenov as Nabi goes under. Semenov with an EARTH SHAKING 5! Now up 6-0. He wins 6-0 for Bronze.

GOLD TIME BABY!  World Finals rematch: Lopez vs Kayalp! Underway now and Lopez goes out for 4 right away with a chest lock, then 1 more on a step out. 5-0 Lopez. Now Kayalp is warned for passivity. Kayalp put under.  Able to defend.  1 period in the books.  2nd now underway. Another caution and it's 6-0 Lopez.  Gut here ends it.  Couldn't get it. Punches thrown, no caution and two, Lopez dancing!  1 more minute goes by and Lopez does it!  6-0 final!

Repechage: Scoreless between Tamasebi and Akhlaghi.  Now 1-0 Akhlaghi after a caution point.  Then a point comes for Tamasebi to make it 1-1 but Akhlaghi gets a takedown for the 3-1 lead.  Akglaghi wins and advances.

Shariati with a few guts to take a 6-0 lead over his Venezuelan opponent at 130. Now 7-0 with the step out and another step out comes but it's ruled a straight arm push, so still just 7-0. There's the tech for Shariati.

Nabi takes on Euren in a battle of two former world medalists at 130. Scoreless one minute in. Nabi gets his chance on top and gets the turn.  2-0 lead. Euren now getting his chance.  He comes out front, Nabi gets away. 3-0 Nabi with the caution point as time now runs out.

Now Saad talks on Bayrakov in 130. Bayrakov on top but can't get the turn. Bayrakov gets 1 for the passivity, then Saad gets 1 to make it 1-1. 2-1 win for Bayrakov after a caution point comes late.  That was a painful one to watch.

LAST repechage match.  Akhlaghi of Iran taking on Kudla of Germany.  Kudla gets his chance on top.  Nothing doing so far.  Still scoreless 90 in.  Passive and 1 and Akhlaghi is up 1.  Now 1 for Kudla as Akhlaghi goes down. The last match toughened me up for the complete boredom this 1-1 caution fest caused me.  Kudla wins 1-1.  Unbelievable caution against Lorincz, with 30 to ref basically hands the match to Kudla.

PRELIMS: Ben Provisor and Robby Smith take the mat today for Team USA.  Looking on FloArena, Robby will be 6th up on Mat C. Ben will be 5th on Mat A.

#2 Chakvatadze takes on #3 Tamasebi right freaking now! Scoreless in the first 30 seconds. Chakvatadze up 1-0 after a step out. Chakvatadze with a great gut now he leads 3-0!  45 to go.  Akhlaghi of Iran wins by tech.  Chakvatadze a 3-0 winner.

Ben Provisor on deck Mat A, he'll be taking on World Silver Assakalov. World Champ Beleniuk up 3-0 on Mat C. He wins 9-0. #2 ranked World Bronze Lorincz coming up on Mat B.

Provisor now up!  Over/under bodylock for Assakalov, Provisor keeping his hips WAY back. They break free, 45 in. 1 minute in, Provisor warned for passivity. Provisor put down. Assakalov can't get the turn.  Underhook right side for Provisor and Assakalov is warned for passivity.  Assakalov put down.  Reversal for Assakalov. 1-0 after 1. 2nd period underway. Assakalov keeps burying his head, Provisor working great for underhooks.  Provisor takes 1-1 lead! No turn and they're back on their feet. Provisor gets put down, he trails 2-1.  Nice 4 for Assakalov and it's 6-1, caution and 2 against Assakalov.  6-3 final, Provisor loses.  Will need an exhausted and underwhelming Assakalov to navigate a murderers row to get pulled through.

Victor Lorincz moves on. Robby Smith coming up on mat c very soon. Chakvatadze and Akhlaghi scrapping.  Chakvatadze up 3-2 in the 2nd.  Nice flurry but no points. Step out for Chakvatadze  makes it 4-2. Another point makes it 5-2. Aklaghi gets pinned, gave up basically.

Here comes Robby!  Underway against Shariati. 2 point arm spin! Robby up 2-0, nearly had his head pinch.  Back up on their feet and Smith goes high dive.  Nothing doing.  He's workin hard! 90 seconds in.  Robby moving him around.  30 to go.  1st period in the books!  Robby not been warned for passivity, either has Shariati. 2nd period underway.  Shariaiti taking ground right now.  Robby warned for passivity.  Ridiculous. Robby put down. This is where he had trouble last time against Shariati.  Robby gets turned 4 times, low gut.  Down 8-2 now. 1 minute to go. Robby loses.  He'll need Shariati to beat World Champ Kayalp to keep Robby alive.

2x Olympic Champ Lopez up on Mat C.  He wrestles Nabi from Estonia who he faced in the 2012 Olympic final. Nabi put under Lopez.  Gut for Lopez and he leads 2-0. 1st period ends.  Lopez gets a caution point.  1:15 to go. Lopez wins 3-0.

But first, we have World Champ Beleniuk. We are only on 2 mats (A and B) from here on. Beleniuk unable to score at this point, 1 minute in. Just as I say that it's 4 for Beleniuk and there's another two, and two more and a reversal.  8-1, and then 10-1.

Assakalov coming up on Mat A against Lorincz.  Ben needs Assakalov to win here. Lorincz warned for passivity early. Now Assakalov warned.  No turn for Assakalov on top.  0-0 after 1. Gut for Lorincz makes it 2-0 after a low gut. Now 2-1 after a low gut by Lorincz.  Lorincz wins, Provisor done.

Chakvatadze moves on again.

Another huge one for Team USA.  Shariati needs to beat World Champ Kayalp on A.  We need Kayalp to lose or Smith is eliminated.  Kayalp pins. Robby is out. No medals for USA Greco for the 2nd straight Olympics.

Mijain Lopez up again against Euren of Sweden. No scoring, 50 seconds in but Mijain is dictating everything. Euren put down.  Gut time. Low gut makes it 2-0 Mijain.  Lopez now up 4-0.  Semenov of Russia leading in the other quarter, should he win he'll get Lopez. Lopez wins 4-0.  Will have Russia next.

Great semi with Chakvatadze taking on Lorincz, #2 vs #3! Lorincz digging an underhook then a 2 on 1.  Warned for passivity and Lorincz goes down.  He doesn't get turned.  90 to go.  Lorincz gets his chance on top, no turn coming. Scoreless in both semi's. Chakvatadze gets 4 and 2 for a 7-0 lead.  World Champ Beleniuk up 1-0. Now 1 more then a 4 for Beleniuk and he's up 6-0. Both semi's getting out of hand. A Belenkiuk vs Chakvatadze meeting looms. Beleniuk  and Chakvatadze both win.

Gold Medal Match: Chakvatadze, Russia vs Beleniuk, Ukraine

Kayalp taking on Popp, Lopez taking on Semenov. Lopez gets on top and gets a turn.  Up 2-0. Kayalp wins 8-0 in the first!  1/2 of the World Final from 2015 is set. Now he's up 3-0 in the 2nd. Time up.  Lopez/Kayalp final! Again!

Gold Medal Match: Lopez, Cuba vs Kayalp, Turkey
