We all know heavyweight can be one of the toughest classes to recruit, but American University has found their guy. The 17th-ranked heavyweight in the country, Niko Camacho (class of 2017) of Bethlehem Catholic, has verbally committed to American.
"I just wanted to know where I was going," Camacho told FloWrestling. "I also want to major in political science, so it will be perfect going to school in Washington D.C."
Camacho was fourth this year at the Pennsylvania state tournament, and third at the prestigious Beast of the East. This spring, he notched a big win over No. 10 Mansur Abdul-Malik at the Journeymen Freestyle Classic, and recently went a perfect 9-0 at the Disney Duals.
He will look to build on that big offseason heading into his senior campaign.
"Now, I can focus on winning an Ironman, Beast of the East, and a state title," Camacho said.
Camacho chose American over Nebraska.
