A new era begins at Michigan State this year. With the retirement of longtime coach Tom Minkel, Roger Chandler inherited the challenge of waking the sleeping giant that is Michigan State. Coach Chandler has made moves already by adding Senior Nationals champion Wynn Michalak to the coaching staff.

Now, Michigan State is adding to their talent on the roster. Austin Eicher, the-133 pound MAC champion this year for Northern Illinois, has informed FloWrestling of his intent to transfer to Michigan State.

Eicher was a big surprise to many last year. The Hartland, Michigan, product was coming off of a very average redshirt year when he emerged as a redshirt freshman and spent time in the ASICS FloRankings before winning the MAC Championships.

Some of Eicher's wins over key opponents last year include CMU's Corey Keener, Missouri's Zach Synon and Ohio's Cam Kelly.

"I am excited for the opportunity to come back to my home state and wrestle for Roger Chandler, his coaching staff, and MSU in the new Spartan era," Eicher said to FloWrestling. "I am looking forward to doing my part in helping this team's future success in the Big 10."

Here's Eicher's win over Anthony Tutolo of Kent State at the Michigan State Open:
