Recently, my home state of West Virginia received a record amount of rainfall that caused an unprecedented, devastating amount of flooding. Since it began, 1,200 homes have been destroyed, and 25 people have lost their lives—the second most this country has ever seen due to a flash flood. Forty-four of the state's 55 counties have declared a state of emergency.

One of the areas hit hardest by the flooding was Greenbrier County, home to Alderson-Broaddus wrestler Josiah Solak. As the flooding began to intensify, Josiah and his father, Mark, saw an elderly woman trapped in her car beginning to be swept away by the current.

The father and son charged into the water, managed to free the woman from her car, and quickly sought refuge in a nearby tree. But they weren't out of the woods, yet. Because of the raging waters, the three were forced to stay in the tree for nearly five hours.

Multiple times, the elderly woman wanted to give up, but Josiah refused to let her go. Finally, rescue crews were able to get to the trio and safely pull them from the tree. While hanging in the tree, the trio narrowly missed being run into by a house that had been swept away and was on fire.

After being exposed to the elements for such a long time, Mark Solak was hospitalized with hypothermia and shock, and actually lost part of his thumb. From holding onto the woman for so long, Josiah may have suffered multiple ruptured tendons in his arms. Without the mental toughness and encouraging words of Josiah, the elderly woman certainly would have been swept away by the waters.

The legendary Greenbrier Golf Course was hit so hard by flood waters that the PGA Tour was forced to cancel this weekend's Greenbrier Classic.

During the massive flooding, the Solaks also lost a great deal of their home. The basement, where Solak and his two brothers' bedrooms are, was completely destroyed, and they lost all their clothes.
