Women's Freestyle Paths To Olympic Qualification
Brackets are posted for the women’s freestyle portion of the 2nd Olympic Games World Qualifier. What does the qualification path look like for each American?

Kelsey Campbell, 58kg
Campbell drew Thi Ly Kieu of Vietnam first round. She was a 2016 Asian Championships bronze. Like Campbell, she was defeated in her first match in Mongolia.

In the second round Campbell would have Janet Sovero Nino of Peru. Sovero Nino was 2nd in the round robin pool at the Pan-Am Championships and defeated Leigh Jaynes-Provisor along the way. She has come up short in both the Pan-Am Olympic Games Qualifier and the 1st World Olympic Qualifier in Mongolia.

The road continues to get tougher as Campbell progresses through the bracket as Valeria Koblova-Zholobova of Russia should be waiting in the quarterfinal. She has won multiple world medals with the  most recent senior level medal being silver in 2014.

Possible semifinal opponents include 2015 world bronze medalist, Tatyana  Kit of Ukraine and Virginia Jackelin Jimenez Fernandez of Venezuela. Fernandez defeated Alli Ragan in the bronze medal match at the Pan-Am Olympic Games Qualifier.

Tamyra Mensah, 69kg
Mensah was a questionable call away from qualifying in Mongolia. Being that doesn’t help her in Turkey

The first round she drew Jakhar Geetika of India. She has very few international results in the database. The most recent competition she has listed is the Indian Pro Wrestling League. She wrestled for the Haryana Hammers in November and December. She finished the league with a 2-5 record. That record is a little deceiving as she dropped multiple bouts to 75kg world champion and medalist, Adeline Gray and Vasilisa Marzaliuk.

Geetika also had a loss in the Pro Wrestling League to Alina Stadnik Makhinia of Ukraine. She is the expected second round opponent for Mensah or Geetika. Stadnik Makhinia was a 2013 world champion at 67kg and won the European Games up at her new weight class of 69kg in 2015. She was only 1-2 in the Pro Wrestling league this past year because of the weight class being blocked in a few duals. He losses were to Gray and Marzaliuk, so it too is a deceiving result.

Three of the four women that are possible semifinal opponents were in the field in Mongolia. Laura Skujina of Latvia defeated Martina Kuenz of Austria and they are possible foes for each other. Adina Elana Popescu was defeated by Azrbaijan’s representative in the first round in Mongolia. Mensah defeated Azerbaijan in round 2. Skujina has the best resume of the set and will probably emerge from the quarter. Skujina’s best recent finishes are bronze medals at the 2014 European and World Championships.

Both women have incredibly tough paths to qualification. Jesse Thielke took a tough path in Greco Roman and turned it into a ticket to Rio. Can Campbell and Mensah do the same? Action begins 3AM EST.
