nullEd Ruth, one of the most dynamic wrestlers to ever grace the mat, is moving on to the MMA world.

In May of last year, it was announced that Ruth had signed a contract with Bellator MMA, but that he was not going to step into the cage until after he was finished pursuing his Olympic wrestling goals.

And now, that time has come.

At the Olympic Team Trials this past weekend the three-time NCAA Champ was defeated by Keith Gavin in the quarterfinals which brought his Olympic goals to an end. Now, just one day later, the four-time All-American announced via Twitter that it was time to “pursue new disciplines.”

We caught up with “The Truth” after signing with Bellator back in May to discuss his future endeavors when he said:
My managers had been talking with some different people about it for a while and they would come to me with what they thought was important,” said Ruth. “But I really like what Bellator is doing and I am happy with my contract and the potential for things with them.
He also talked about his uncertainty of where or who he’d be training with.

“I think I want to work with guys who specialize more with punching and kicking though. I’m a pretty unpredictable wrestler and I want to bring that to my fighting style,” Ruth said.

We still aren’t positive as to when he will make his debut, but FloSports’ MMA guru @FrontRowBrian believes it will be before the end of the year.

And although some things are still unknown when it comes to Ruth’s fight career, the one thing he let everyone know in an interview with Bleacher Report last year was that “everyone they put in front of [him] is in for a world of hurt."
