During his collegiate career, Caldwell was a four-time NCAA All-American. Caldwell began his career at Oklahoma where he was a two-time All-American and NCAA runner-up to Jordan Burroughs. After his sophomore season Caldwell transferred to Oklahoma State where he achieved All-American status two more times and finished his senior season as an NCAA runner-up to David Taylor. Caldwell has also found success on the international scene winning a University World Title in 2014, taking fourth in a loaded U.S. Open bracket, and finishing in the top six at the World Team Trials.
Caldwell has a close relationship with head coach Sammie Henson who coached him during his time at Oklahoma. Caldwell spent the last season training at Oklahoma State.
