CP's Weekend Top 10
This is the code he gave me: As I scoured the slate for this weekends action on the D1 scene, I couldn’t help but notice a ridiculous amount of jaw-dropping match ups. With the dual season in full swing and athletes having shown whose got what, I wanted to do a top 10 of the best matchups for this WEEKEND.

10. #5 Bo Jordan-Ohio State v. #7 Taylor Walsh-Indiana-Well, I have a well-documented appreciation of Bo Jordan’s game. Despite Taylor Walsh’s repeated use of unapproved moves, I still find myself enjoying watching him in action. Now Taylor got absolutely massacred by Pierce Harger last week. How will the young Bo approach 165’s Honey Badger? I’m taking Bo. Comfortably.

9. #1 Scott Schiller-Minnesota v. #6 Morgan McIntosh-Penn State-Last year when Scott Schiller faced Morgan McIntosh he was the undisputed #1 and looked like a guy poised to run away with the title. Then Morgan McIntosh happened and took the match with relative ease by an 8-4 margin. McIntosh is coming off a loss against Kyle Snyder 2 weeks ago. I just believe match ups matter in this game. Morgan made it about the positions he was more comfortable in. I don’t know if Schiller can avoid these scrambles or not. Don’t be surprised to see Morgan doing what he did to Schiller again this time around. I like Morgan, then again, I’ve been high on him for awhile now.

8. #3 Josh Kindig-Oklahoma State v. #4 Drake Houdashelt-Missouri-For the 5th time these two will collide. Kindig found a way in their crazy Scuffle final. Kindig made necessary adjustments after losing the previous 4 meetings. Now it is Drake’s turn to make an adjustment. We’ll see what his counter-punch looks like. I think Houdashelt doesn’t leave this one up to chance and takes more risks/attacks than before. I’m going with Drake, and I fully acknowledge I may never learn with Josh Kindig. I guess I know how George W. Bush felt..

7. #5 Blaise Butler-Virginia v. #8 Tyler Wilps-Pittsburgh-Blaise is possibly my favorite guy to watch in all of college wrestling. Seriously.  So yeah he’s on this list and the fact that he’s facing a returning All-American and STUD in Tyler Wilps makes it all the more intriguing. It’s a tremendous style clash. Wilps is a brawler, great hand fighter and plays it a little more traditional. Blaise is wide open with dynamic throws and holds. I’ll take Blaise here.

6. #16 Dean Heil-Oklahoma State v. #6 Lavion Mayes-Missouri- Last time around this was an entertaining OT scramble-fest in the Scuffle quarters. Heil is coming along for the Cowboys and Mayes is coming off of a loss. I think Heil is poised for another big win here and think he takes Mayes out this time around after being so close at the Scuffle.

5. #1 Jason Tsirtsis-Northwestern v. #4 Brandon Sorensen-Iowa-A win here by Brandon Sorensen will secure the Hawkeye Freshmen easily into the top 3 (It’s a joke Hawkeye fans, simmer down). Tsirtsis has been navigating the minefield of overtime matches. Does Sorensen have the goods to get to the legs and finish? That’s what this match comes down too. Tsirtsis doesn’t give many opportunities, and his single leg finishes are excellent. If they get into a scramble, can Sorensen find ways to hold out for stalemates, or will Tsirtsis capitalize in this area where I view him to be superior? I like Tsirtsis by a point. I don’t think Sorensen will get to the ties where he can hit his near arm far leg. Tsirtsis will get to his holds and control a very close match.

4. #3 Connor Medbery-Wisconsin v. #7 Adam Coon-Michigan-Two of my favorite heavies. Last Spring Coon launched him and it was crazy. These two have never hit in college, so I’m excited to see how the rule changes benefit Medbery, who has been awesome all year. I like Connor here.

3. #1 Bobby Telford-Iowa v. #4 Mike McMullan-Northwestern- Bobby got him at Midlands in a weird match. McMullan looked like he had Telford on the ropes, and perhaps he felt that as well and got a little too confident with an attack. That attack gave Telford an easy go-behind that won him the match. I like McMullan in the rematch for no real reason at all. This is a coin-flip match. It has been for years. Last time it was tails, this time I’m going heads. There’s no rhyme or reason necessary. They’re that close.

2. #1 Gabe Dean-Cornell v. #3 Nate Brown-Lehigh- Dean stormed back for the comeback last year. Can Brown both jump out to a lead and hang on this time around? I have been all in with Dean this year but mentioned Brown is a force at 184. I like Dean close here as Brown is as stingy defensively as they come.

1. #2 James Green-Nebraska v. #4 Isaiah Martinez-Illinois-I mean do I really have to spell it out for ya? I-Mar has been tearing guys apart. But what guys is the question. Sure beating Cody Pack and Mike Kelly is a good thing. But what happens when you roll out a seasoned vet like Greezy? If you think Green is going to let I-Mar get to those underhooks I think you’re crazy. He may get to them a time or two, but Green will be ready to clear and attack. I like Green to take this one here and pour just a touch of water on the flaming I-Mar hype train. This one is number 1 for a reason though. Isaiah is as dangerous as anybody not named Ness at this weight. Reckless abandon could be his ally here and let us not forget Green has been shown to be vulnerable to big moves before and not just against Dylan Ness, either.
