Air Force vs Wyoming

Match ups at 125lbs and 165lbs, highlight competition here as we'll see a couple of battles pitting ranked wrestler against each other.  The Cox vs Martinez match should be particularly interesting as both wrestlers put major points on the board. There also seems to be somewhat of a growing rivalry there between the two wrestlers —I expect this to be an early Match of the Week candidate.

Probable Line Ups

125: #10 Tyler Cox (Wyoming) vs #8 Josh Martinez (Air Force)
133: Drew Templeman (Wyoming)  vs Anthony McHugh (Air Force)
141: Cole Mendenhall (Wyoming)  vs Carter McElhany (Air Force)
149: Jake Elliott (Wyoming) vs Jerry McGinty (Air Force)
157: Archie Colgan (Wyoming)  vs Sam Kreimer (Air Force)
165: #20 Dakota Friesth (Wyoming) vs #17 Jesse Stafford (Air Force)
174: Andy McCulley (Wyoming)  vs Scott Reilly (Air Force)
184: #17 Benjamin Stroh (Wyoming)  vs Konner Witt (Air Force)
197: #17 Shane Woods (Wyoming)  vs Jake Carda (Air Force)
285 pounds: Tanner Harms (Wyoming)  vs Marcus Malacek (Air Force)

Walsh Ironman
December 12th and 13th, 2014
Broadcast Info: CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE WALSH IRONMAN, 12/12 -12/13

A handful of storylines dominate this year's Walsh Ironman, the tournament many enthusiasts of our sport consider to be the best scholastic event in high school wrestling.

Zahid Valencia goes for his 4th Ironman title this weekend, something that had been accomplished only by the legendary David Taylor, who beat Logan Stieber for one of those titles. Additionally, for Zahid to do it, he'll have to win the deepest Ironman weight of 2014, which includes #2-Myles Martin, #3-Xavier Montalvo, #6-Dylan Wisman, #7-Christian Dietrich, all of whom have reached a FloNational final.

Traditionally, the Ironman  serves as the table-setter for the National Team Champions. This year is no different as the top 4 teams in the nation are all present: Blair Academy, OPRF, Wyoming Seminary, St. Parish Graham. Making this year's team race as dramatic as ever is the fact that there is no consensus on who the #1 team in the land is, or who will walk away with the team title. Eyes will be glued to the team standings all weekend.

Also, the #1 spot at 152lbs is on the line this weekend. Isaiah White beat Vincenzo Joseph in the 145lb Fargo final. But Joseph, the reigning #1 at 145, will move up to exact revenge and try to knock off the #1 at 152.

Oh and one more thing: Spencer Lee.  Where that kid goes, everyone watches.  We'll see how the bump up in weight affects his ability to claim p4p #1 status once the weekend is over.
