What 2 Watch 4 This Weekend: Studs everywhere!
Your weekly D1 preview is back. If you’re new to W2W4 basically I give you a summary of where the big time action is that is going to affect the D1 landscape. I look for ranked v. ranked match ups, and other important points that will directly impact D1 teams.

Saturday has one obvious one, but wait til the Opens on Sunday. Some huge ramifications

Saturday, November 1st

NWCA All Star Classic-7 PM EST LIVE on Flo. You already know how nasty this one is going to be. Even the undercard is sick with Devin Carter taking on CJ Cobb and Lorenzo Thomas set to scrap as well!

Sunday, November 2nd

OCU Open-I know you’re probably like, “say what?” but Oklahoma State has sent their young bucks consistently to this tournament. What does that mean? Marsteller and Blees at 157 likely to scrap. My understanding is the starting job at 157 is not yet determined. How those two perform there could go a long way in who gets the job for the Cowboys.

MSU Open
Tons of storylines interspersed into this tournament. We get our first look at the new look Mountaineers of WVU as well as the Boilermakers of Purdue. How have the coaching changes impacted these teams? I bet we will tell a difference right away!

Not to mention all but 2 Ohio State starters will be taking the mat at MSU as well. Then all the Buckeye fans who whined about where I ranked Bo and Snyder can calm down. If they win this weekend they’re both top 10. Was that such a long time to wait!?

Oh yeah, we’re LIVE from the MSU Open, so you can catch all these matches as they go down!

125: Heavy hitters include Super Frosh Nathan Tomasello (TOSU), Conor Youtsey (Michigan), Zeke Moisey of WVU (he’s RSing this year but keep an eye on him for next year). Expect Tomasello to roll here.

133: Zane Richards of Illinois and Rossi Bruno of Michigan are the two big dogs here Angelo Amenta (Columbia) is a sneaky guy to have your eye on. I was excited to see Danny Sabatello down at 133 now from 141 a year ago for Purdue. Cory Stainbrook of WVU will be in the mix as well as Garth Yenter of Michigan State.

141: AA Steve Dutton of Michigan is the favorite here in a field that features Mike Morales of WVU (down from 149 a year ago). They seemed destined for a finals match.

149: Hunter Stieber looks like a lock in this fairly competitive weight that features Tywan Claxton (Houdashelt slayer!) , Gabe Morse (Grajales slayer!), , Brandon Nelsen (Listens to Slayer?).

157: The big 3 here are VERY juicy with Josh Demas, Brian Murphy (Michigan) and Markus Scheidel (Columbia) all well accomplished guys. Spartak Chino (Ohio), Randy Languis (TOSU) and Doug Welch (Purdue) all will give this weight some solid depth.

165: It’s goin down. Bo Jordan v. Taylor Massa. I feel it. Peyton Walsh, Harrison Hightower are here as well, but I don’t think they prevent one of the biggest matchups of the weekend from going down!

174: Cody Walters (Ohio), Mark Martin (TOSU) and Chad Welch (Purdue) are looking like the big guns for this weight. Buckeye fans have a close eye on Martin for this year.

184: Kenny Courts (TOSU), Domenic Abounader (Michigan), John Rizqallah (MSU) and Bubba Scheffel (WVU) look to be the cream of the crop here.

197: Kyle Snyder (TOSU), Phil Wellington (Ohio) and Braden Atwood (Purdue) are the class of this weight. Keep an eye on Max Huntley (Michigan) and Paul Rands (Navy) as well.

285: Another potential rematch between Adam Coon and Nick Tavanello! Keep an eye on WVU’s AJ Vizcarrondo as well.

Clarion Open
125: Right out of the gate an interesting weight. Sean Russell (Edinboro), Kory Mines (Edinboro), Dalton Macri (unattached). Russell won the wrestle off bout against NCAA qualifier Mines already.

133: Scott Delvecchio (Rutgers) and Jade Rauser (Utah Valley) look to be the guys to beat here. Chase Zemenak and Zach Valley could have an impact as well.

141: True Frosh Alfred Bannister will make his D1 debut unattached for the Terps. Rutgers Tyson Dippery and Brock Zacherl of Clarion are likely the front runners along with Baby J (Bannister) to win this weight.

149: Edinboro AA Dave Habat, Clarions Sam Sherlock and Cornell recruit Joey Galasso look like the guys to beat here.

157: PSU True Frosh Jason Nolf makes his D1 debut at 157 against the likes of Austin Matthews of Edinboro. They look to be the class of this weight.

165: Jon Jay Chavez, a Cornell recruit and Kasey Davis of Edinboro look like the guys to beat at a cursory glance.

174: Bo Nickal is entered here for PSU unattached! Another Cornell commit, Dylan Artigliere is in this field as well as Patrick Jennings of Edinboro and Jarred Lux of Buffalo round out the field here.

184: Edinboro’s Vic Avery will be the man to beat here at this weight.

285: Adam Fager of Utah Valley and Joe Stolfi of Bucknell seem to be on a collision course for a battle in the finals here! Also keep an eye on Jeramy Sweany, a Cornell commit as well as Dawson Peck of Maryland.

Daktronics Open
We’ve got some really solid action up at South Dakota State where ASU and NDSU will all be in attendance! Keep an eye out for Cody Pack, Blake Stauffer and Kevin Radford as the big studs in this tourney.  Registration is still going on so this field is only going to get tougher!

So that’ll do it for weekend number 1. The season is here and is wasting NO TIME to ease into action.
