Fi Rumor Mill: Zeke On the Move, USA Ramifications

The conclusion of the college season not only marks a time for championships and celebration, but also a carousel of sorts for coaches retiring, moving up, and being fired.

But the head coaching vacancy at Arizona State may shake up more than just the ranks of coaches at other universities.

The prevailing sentiment among insiders is that United States Team Coach, Zeke Jones, has applied for, and will get, the Sun Devil gig. Word is that the announcement will come as soon as Thursday.

An ASU alumni and three-time All American who was part of the 1985 NCAA title team, Jones would be a sensible and compelling selection. Arizona State is home to the Art Martori-led Sunkist wrestling club which has a commitment to developing senior freestyle athletes. Jones would bridge the gap nicely between college and freestyle club, as the 1992 Olympic Silver medalist also has a lengthy college coaching resume that includes a stint as UPenn Head Coach from 2005-2008.

Other candidates purported to apply for Arizona State are Eric Guerrero and Sammy Henson, among others.

An appointment to ASU would leave the U.S. Senior Freestyle Team without a captain, but with several prominent names as intriguing Jones' successors. Among them, Bill Zadick (Freestyle Developmental Coach), Brandon Slay (SR Resident Freestyle Coach), Terry Brands (Co-Head Coach at Iowa), Lou Roselli (Ohio State Asst.), and Jamil Kelly (NC State Asst.).
