Foster Is Fifth In International Tournament

UW volunteer assistant wins three bouts Sunday

ISTANBUL, Turkey (Feb. 17, 2014) University of Wyoming wrestling volunteer assistant coach Clayton Foster finished fifth in his bracket at an international event over the weekend.

On Sunday, Foster went 3-2 at 86 kilograms (189 pounds) in the Yasar Dogu International freestyle tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. Wrestling in association with the Cowboy Wrestling Club and GRIT Athletics, he was victorious in his first three bouts, including a pin and a 5-0 shutout. But he dropped his next two contests to finish fifth.

Foster was upended 8-5 in the bronze-medal match by Iran’s Mahammasjavad Ebrahimizivlaei. He trailed 4-1 after the first period, but closed to within one, 4-3, with a takedown in the second period. Shortly after, though, he gave up two-straight takedowns to Ebrahimizivlaei to drop the bout.

In the previous match, Foster lost a close 6-2 decision to Russia’s Abdulrashid Sadulaev, ranked 10th in the world.

Foster will be back in action March 15-16 in the Senior Men’s Freestyle World Cup in Los Angeles.
