No. 13 Ohio State wins nine weight classes: will face No. 1 Minnesota live on BTN Monday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State wrestling team downed Kent State 32-4 in its second match of the 2014 EAS Sports and Nutrition NWCA National Duals in St. John Arena Sunday night. With the Buckeyes’ second win of the day, Ohio State improved to 11-4 overall (4-4 Big Ten).

 

The Buckeyes are serving as hosts of the 2014 NWCA National Duals in St. John Arena Sunday-Monday. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, click on the Tournament Central page at the top.

 

Ohio State led the match 21-0, before dropping its first match in the 174-pound weight class. Redshirt freshman Nick Roberts of the 125-weight class topped his opponent Alfredo Gray with a 15-0 technical fall. Next up was No. 9 Johnni DiJulius of the 133-weight class who wrestled Mack McGuire. The redshirt sophomore out of Aurora, Ohio, recorded a 2-0 decision over his opponent.

 

Ohio State secured wins in the 141 and 149 weight classes with redshirt junior and No. 3 Logan Stieber’s 13-2 decision win over Tyler Small and nationally ranked redshirt senior Ian Paddock’s 9-3 decision win over Michael DePalma.

 

The 157-weight class featured redshirt junior Randy Languis and T.J Keklak. Languis went on to win the match by a 4-0 decision.  Senior Joe Grandominico downed Clay Wenger of the 165-weight class with a 5-2 decision.

 

Sophomore Jacob Bresciani suffered the Buckeyes’ sole loss in the 174-weight class to Caleb Marsh by a 12-1 decision.

 

Ohio State went on to win the last four matches and secured the win over Kent State. Redshirt junior and No. 11 Kenny Courts of the 184 weight class recorded a 5-3 decision win over Mike Vollant followed by redshirt senior and No. 8 Nick Heflin of the 197 weight class 4-1 decision win over Cole Baxter.

 

The Buckeyes closed out the match with a Kosta Karageorge heavyweight 18-0 technical fall win over Mimmo Kytle.

 

Ohio State will return to action at 1 p.m. Monday to face No. 1 Minnesota. The match will be aired live on BTN.
