Harvard Wrestling Travels to Brown Saturday for EIWA Showdown

Storyline
The Harvard wrestling team is back out on the road this weekend as it travels to Providence to take on Brown Saturday, Feb. 15 at 12 p.m. The match will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.

Inside the Series – Brown
Harvard defeated Brown last year, 21-11, to improve to 53-30-2 all-time against the Bears. Steven Keith '13 earned a 7-2 decision in the victory to become the eighth member of the Crimson's 100-win club as Harvard took seven of the 10 weights.

Last Time Out
The Crimson welcomed both Penn and Princeton to the MAC last weekend as it wrapped up a three-match homestand. James Fox and Todd Preston went 2-0 to lead Harvard, but in the end the Quakers and Tigers got the best of the Crimson.

Centennial Celebration
First established in 1913, the Harvard wrestling team is celebrating its 100^th anniversary in 2013-14, making the Crimson one of the oldest collegiate wrestling programs in the nation. As part of that celebration GoCrimson.com is releasing the "Top Moments in Harvard Wrestling History," continuing this week with No's. 16-20.

Live From Lavietes
Harvard will host Lehigh in its final dual meet of the year at Lavietes Pavilion Sunday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m. The match will be simulcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App as part of a partnership between Harvard and ESPN that will see 10 Crimson events this spring simulcast across the three platforms.

For the first time ever, all four of Harvard's home dual meets will be streamed in HD quality featuring a live scoreboard, new graphics package and play-by-play commentary through the Ivy League Digital Network. Dualing
Harvard opened its dual meet schedule with a 25-13 win at Rider, extending the team's dual-meet win streak to six matches dating back to last season and marking the team's longest win streak since taking seven in a row in 2000-01. The Crimson finished 2012-13 with an 8-5 overall record and 5-4 against the EIWA, marking the first time since that same 2000-01 season that Harvard has posted a winning record overall and in the conference.

The Crimson enters this weekend's bouts versus Penn and Princeton 3-6 overall, 2-6 in the EIWA.

Young Guns
Harvard's starting lineup features just one senior, three juniors and six underclassmen. Sophomore Todd Preston leads the squad with 16 victories on the year, with freshman Eric Morris posting 15 and Tyler Grimaldi having turned in 11 wins. Morris also leads the Crimson with nine bonus-point victories, picking up seven major decisions and two tech-falls.

Enshrinement
Harvard wrestling great Jesse Jantzen '04 has been chosen for induction into the EIWA Hall of Fame.

Jantzen will be one of four inductees from the Class of 2014 which also includes Kyle Dake (Cornell '13), David Pottruck (Penn '70) and Matt Valenti (Penn '07). The ceremony will take place Sunday, March 9 at 3:45 p.m. prior to the championship finals of the 110th EIWA Championships, being held this year at The Palestra.

Guess Whose Back
Eight starters and 23 letterwinners from last year's squad which finished its dual meet schedule 8-5 overall, 5-4 in the EIWA, marking the program's first winning dual-meet record since it won the EIWA in 2000-01 and its first winning record in the conference since the same year. The 2012-13 version of the Crimson also placed eight on the podium at the EIWA Championships and earned seven All-Ivy League selections, again the most since 2001.

Adding Depth
Seven freshmen have joined the Crimson for the 2013-14 season; Zachary Dinan, Samuel Ekanem, Tyler Grimaldi, Colby Knight, Eric Morris, Colton Peppelman and Bradley Perkins.  The seven member class of 2017 hails from five different states, represents five different weight classes and is made up of three All-Americans, two state champions and a private school state champion.

Taking the Lead
Senior Cameron Coy and junior James Fox have been elected by their peers to serve as captains for the 2013-14 season. Croy was an honorable mention All-Ivy League selection last year after going 20-16 at both 174 lbs. and 184 lbs., and placing eighth at the EIWA Championships as a 174-pounder. Fox, meanwhile, was named to the All-Ivy League second team and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a runner-up performance at the EIWA Championships.

"Both Cameron and James have shown their leadership potential at different times of their careers and we are expecting big things from them over the next year," stated Jay Weiss, The David G. Bunning '88 Head Coach for Harvard Wrestling. "They will have a lot to do with the success of the program in the 2013-2014 campaign, as well as in future years."

Well Rounded Experience
The Harvard wrestling team was recognized as the top academic program in the country in 2012-13, marking the third time in four years the honor has been bestowed upon the Crimson. Under the tutelage of head coach Jay Weiss, Harvard has been ranked in the top 10 10 times and in 2011, the Crimson set the record for highest GPA among Div. I wrestling teams with a combined 3.5133.
