Movers and Shakers
• #8 Franklin Regional won their first Class 3A PA State Duals championship defeating WPIAL rival Greater Latrobe 37-23 in the final. The Panthers won nine bouts to Greater Latrobe’s five in their third meeting of the year, all won by Franklin Regional. In the semifinals, Franklin Regional beat a blue-collar Nazareth team 38-22 (nine bouts to five) and Greater Latrobe upended another WPIAL foe, North Allegheny, 34-29 (each team won seven bouts). The dual came down to a winner-take-all final match at 152 where sophomore state qualifier Jake Shaffer major decisioned Drew Landefeld 11-1 to punch Greater Latrobe’s finals ticket.

• A record was set in Class 2A when #12 Bethlehem Catholic “four-peated” as champions at the PA State Duals with their 45-15 victory over Reynolds. Here are the scores of Bethlehem Catholic’s three dual meet wins going into the final: 73-0, 62-0, and 59-3. That is called complete and utter domination of the state competition for the Golden Hawks.

• Ohio also held their State Duals this past weekend. In Division I, #7 Massillon Perry beat #23 Brecksville-Broadview Heights 48-9. #5 Graham won Division II by a score of 35-24 over Claymont and in Division III, Delta was victorious over Dayton Christian 40-26.

• #1 Blair Academy hosted #22 Bound Brook Friday evening winning eight bouts en route to a final score of 37-22. The marquee match was at 126 as Blair Academy’s #6 Matthew Kolodzik decisioned 2013 state champion Craig De La Cruz 6-3. Bound Brook freshman Mekhi Lewis earned an impressive 8-3 win over National Prep placer Alex Rinaldi at 132. Bound Brook deserves credit for winning six bouts without two key starters: Stephan and Sean Glasgow. Blair Academy had Jordan Kutler, Dylan Milonas, and David Showunmi missing in action. They are recovering for the National Prep Tournament at Lehigh University in two weeks. It is a probable Patrick Coover makes his anticipated season debut at 182 at this weekend’s qualifier.

• #4 Apple Valley dropped two spots in the rankings because state champion 152 Dayton Racer is no longer enrolled at the school. Racer may be best remembered for his dual-clinching victory in the final bout at The Clash versus Oak Park-River Forest’s Matthew Rundell 4-2. For now, #3 Clovis holds their spot and #2 Oak Park-River Forest jumps up two positions due to Apple Valley’s sudden departure of one their key wrestlers.

Winter Reading: FloInsider Content
• On Friday, there will be an in-depth article with three mock dual meets: Clovis vs. Oak Park-River Forest; Apple Valley vs. Wyoming Seminary; and the PA Class 3A and 2A State Duals Championship teams: Franklin Regional vs. Bethlehem Catholic. Each mock dual will have a bout-by-bout breakdown, a result for each weight class, and ultimately a guesstimate of a final team score. Be sure that you are a FloInsider as it will go into detail why Clovis stays at #3 and Oak Park-River Forest jumped back to their pre-holiday ranking of #2 in the nation. I'll cover the dual breakdown with predictions while Willie Saylor chimes in with commentary.

The Week Ahead
• Wednesday: Clovis West at Clovis.
• Oklahoma State Duals: 6A features #11 Stillwater on one side of the bracket while the other side has a meeting of #15 Edmond North and #13 Broken Arrow.
