Chalfant Tops Two-Time Defending NCAA Champ

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Hoosier heavyweight Adam Chalfant defeated two-time defending NCAA Champion Tony Nelson Sunday (Feb. 2) during Indiana's 35-6 loss at #2 Minnesota. Redshirt freshman Trevor Moody was victorious individually as well, posting a 6-3 decision in the 141-pound bout.

Chalfant improves to 6-1 versus top-10 opponents, 9-1 against nationally-ranked foes and 21-2 overall following a 3-2 decision over third-ranked Nelson. He bull-rushed the Golden Gopher and finished off a double-leg, burying Nelson for the bout-winning takedown. At 6-1 in Big Ten dual action, Chalfant has built a credible resume for consideration as the top seed for the conference tournament.

Moody made the most of his first career varsity win, doing so in front of a packed house on the road during the Big Ten slate. He came out on the right end of a first period scramble to notch the takedown and early 2-0 lead over Corey Hodowanic. Moody extended his advantage to 4-1 entering the third period, racking up riding time along the way en route to what would ultimately end as a 6-3 decision for the Hoosier.
