Mark Cirello picked up a 2-1 decision in the final bout of the day to secure a 21-19 win for the American University wrestling team in its dual at Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.

Cirello trailed Joe Bonaldi, 1-0, heading into the second period and was able to get the escape to tie it up. The redshirt junior started on top in the third and was able to ride Bonaldi out for the 2-1 win to give American its fourth EIWA victory of the season.

"This was a tough road win today," said Head Coach Teague Moore. "The positives are that we wrestled as a team even when two of our top wrestlers lost. Mark Cirello wrestled his best match of the year to win the dual."

John Boyle started the day with a 12-4 major decision over Colton Perry at 157 lbs. and Keithen Cast posted a 19-2 tech fall in 5:14 to put American up 9-3. The Bearcats won each of the next three bouts to take a 16-9 lead.

No. 11 David Terao and Esteban Gomez-Rivera registered back-to-back wins for the Eagles at 125 and 133 lbs. Terao earned a 3-2 decision over David White and Gomez-Rivera tallied his career-fastest fall, pinning Mike Sardo in 1:10. Nick Tighe edged Tom Page in an 11-5 decision to put Binghamton in the lead, 19-18, heading into Cirello's bout.

"I'm proud of our underclassmen for stepping up when we needed wins," said Moore. "Gomez-Rivera, Boyle and Cast executed with confidence today."

The Eagles head to Lewisburg, Pa. next to face Bucknell on Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m.
