Movers & Shakers
• Archer is for real and enter this week ranked #13 after winning the Kansas City Stampede. The Stampede may be the best individual tournament tournament west of the Mississippi and the team from the dirty south crashed the party. They showed their depth by placing ten wrestlers in the top-nine of the competition. Vincent Artigues (106), Daniel Bullard (160), and MJ Couzan (285) finished second. Freshman phenom Quinn Miller took fourth at 182 losing to top-ranked Bo Nickal and nationally-ranked Joel Dixon. Not to be outdone, Thomas Bullard took third at 152.

• Penn State signee Nick Nevills (285) led the way for #4 Clovis as it blasted through the Zinkin Classic held at Buchanan High Schoool in Clovis, CA. The Cougars scored 314 points to runner-up Buchanan’s 217. Four other teammates joined Nevills as champions: Kristian Olivas (132), Brody Brand (170), AJ Nevills (195), and Matt Weiss at 220. Clovis had two 160 pounders make the final in Dominic Kincaid and Josh Hokit, who ended up double forfeiting the bout, so neither were crowned a champion. Also reaching the final was Julian Gaytan at 126 who lost to Buchanan’s Jason De La Cruz who was named the tournament’s champion of champions.

• One of the Lehigh Valley’s storied programs Nazareth comes in at #23 after a terrific five day span in which they beat rival Parkland in a dual meet last Wednesday in dominating fashion. They capped off their run at the Beast of the East placing fifth. Chase Zemenak (132) took home a fifth place finish, Tyler Tarsi (152) finished fourth after winning five grueling matches in the consolation bracket after giving Nick Reenan of Wyoming Seminary all he could handle in championship round three, and Nico Sevi (182) placed fifth for the Blue Eagles. They are led by famed head coach Dave Crowell, who earned his 150th dual meet victory as Nazareth head coach when they beat Parkland. Crowell also had stops at Easton in the early 80’s and Wilson Area winning state dual and individual championships.

• Edmond North holds strong at #11 even after finishing fourth at the KC Stampede. They were without three starters: super frosh Paxton Rosen (106), Drew Pappadopolos (126), and state runner-up Jordan Prince (132). Starting at 160 with Zach Walton through 220 with Andrew Dixon, they will be tough to beat in any dual meet setting considering they have a anchor in Rosen at the lowest weight class.

• Bound Brook keeps their rank at #12 after being without seven starters participating at the Neptune Tournament. Wrestler’s of note who were missing in action include state champion Craig De La Cruz, state qualifier Sean Glasgow, state qualifier Isaiah Soto, state qualifier in Aaron Saavedra, and freshman Stephen Glasgow who is expected to make an immediate impact on the state level at 120. All will be ready to go for the Bethlehem Holiday Classic after Christmas in a field that includes #8 Wyoming Seminary, Phillipsburg (NJ), and perennial power Central Dauphin. Bound Brook hopes to have state fifth placer Michael Johnson (285) back in time for The Clash after the New Year. He sustained a injury during the football season and would be a key cog during their effort to make the final bracket in Rochester.
