Sooners Down Cowboys in Wild Bedlam Dual
The Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State event known as Bedlam was as exciting and unpredicatble as it could have been. The Sooners battled back from a 15-3 deficit to sneak past the Cowboys 16-15, winning the final four matches and picking up bonus points from Travis Rutt at 197. The Cowboys had early upsets from true freshman Anthony Collica in a comeback win over All-American Nick Lester at 141, and Josh Kindig, who defeated defending NCAA champion Kendric Maple at 149. It seemed like Oklahoma State was well on their way to yet another victory over their in state rival.

The Cowboys then got two more wins from their #2 ranked wrestlers at 157 and 165 where Alex Dieringer and Tyler Caldwell won decisions, respectively. Dieringer was working toward a major decision at the end of the match but Sooner Justin DeAngelis was able to fend off late attacks, and that ended up being the difference in the dual meet.

The most anticipated match of the night was at 174 where a pair of NCAA champions met in Oklahoma's Andrew Howe and Oklahoma State's Chris Perry. A second period reversal and third period takedown was enough for the Sooner to take the match and get the momentum rolling for Oklahoma. The next match was another comeback win as Oklahoma's Danny Chaid hit a beautiful footsweep that took Kyle Crutchmer off of his feet and to his back in the last thirty seconds of the match. Chaid was trailing by one at the time and the win ignited a packed fieldhouse full of elated Sooner fans.

That momentum carried over into the 197 match where two highly ranked opponents were set to square off. Travis Rutt scored early in the match against Blake Rosholt and set the tone as the Sooner went to work. The key moment in that match was when Rutt cut Rosholt and immediately body locked him to his back for five points. Rutt poured on the pressure in the third period and was able to earn the major decision, the first and only match of the day that ended in bonus points.

This lead us to the final match of the dual meet with Oklahoma State leading 15-13. Here is where Ross Larson had an opportunity to make some noise and put a stamp on the dual meet. And that's exactly what he did. Larson came out and scored on a low inside single early in the match which proved to be enough to win the match and the dual meet for the Sooners. The fieldhouse finally erupted after building steam during the last four matches of the day. It was a great ending for Oklahoma in dual meet that started out sour for them.

The Flowrestling team was on the ground and captured the dual meet. We are currently working on providing match highlights from the event and will have them posted as soon as we can.
