Burroughs Wins World Gold After Surgery

Rival competitors, injuries, cheap shots, wrestlers shutting down on him, time. Nothing could stop the determination and resolve of Jordan Burroughs, the pound-for-pound best wrestler in the world.

Unshakeable and Unblemished.

Burroughs is now 65-0 in international competition after winning his 3rd straight World/Olympic title.

Incredible as that sounds, the back story sounds even more fictitious; on August 22nd, while training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Burroughs broke his ankle in the morning workout. The break required surgery.

Ladies and gentlemen, Jordan Burroughs just outscored his opponents 34-3 with a metal plate and five screws in his ankle 27 days after surgery.

Congrats, Jordan. You deserve it. You're the greatest athlete on Planet Earth.


Jordan Burroughs' Road To His 3rd World Title

74KG - Mat A - Round 2 - Jordan Burroughs tf. Gamid Dzhalilov (TJK), 9-2
1st: Burroughs scored just :10 in with good lateral movement out front. He got another pushout to lead 3-0 under :30 in.
Halfway through the period, Dzahilov was warned for for passivity, and he fired right back with a double to cut the lead to 3-2.
Dzahalov took another shot that Burroughs stuffed and countered, 5-2. Moments later, JB snapped and hit a drag.
2nd: Burroughs got in to an upperbody postion about :30 in and went into a tripod. But when Dzahilov went to gut, Burroughs stepped over to complete the tech.


74KG - Mat A- Round 3 - Jordan Burroughs tf. Narsingh Yadav (IND), 7-0
1st: Burroughs was busy. The Indian was not. where passive was, the entire arean wondered. A the two minute mark, Burroughs blasted through a high single to a hand-to-hand lace. He earned a pushout before the 1st period buzzer for a 4-0 lead at the break.
2nd: Yadav took a shot that Burroughs stuffed. JB blasted through a double and seemlessly went to a lace. A thing of beauty.


74KG - Mat C - Quarterfinal: Jordan Burroughs tf. Jabrayil Hassanov (AZE), 7-0
*Hassanov was 5th in Olympics and Runner-Up to Tsargush at Univeristy's.
1st: After a slow minute and a half, JB was put on shot clock, Hassanov tried to use a Russian to push forward and eat up clock, but Burroughs turned the table and got the pushout. Later, Hassanov was in on a nice shot, Burroughs tried to counter. It was ruled two by the mat official but white paddled by the judge and chair. JB tooka 1-0 lead to the break.
2nd: Thirty seconds in, Burroughs picked a beautiful spot for a double. He got a little off balance and changed off to a single that he converted. He polished the tech off with quickness from front head.


74Kg - Mat A - Semifinals: Jordan Burroughs dec. Ali Shabanau (BLR), 7-1
*Shabanau was runner-up at Ali Aliyev and 10th in London.
1st: JB was put on the shot clock at 1:40 and couldn't score, yielding a 0-1 deficit. Burroughs ran threw a double to take the lead. Just before the end of the period,
2nd: Things began getting chippy with Shabanau hitting Burroughs in the face. Burroughs received a fleeing the hold point to make it 3-1 for him. Another penalty point came at the 4:27 mark when Shibanau contined to hit in the face.
Shabanau then took a shot that JB countered, readjusted, fought through position, and eventually scored the 2. He had a 6-1 at the 5:00 minute mark. Shabanau was hit with his third caution for hitting in the face at 5:24 and was disqualified.

74KG - Mat B - Gold Medal Match: Jordan Burroughs dec. Essadollah Akbari (IRI), 4-0
*For the third straight year, Burroughs will face Iran in a World/Olympic final.

1st: The first half of the period stayed scoreless with Burroughs wanting to work from the outside and Akbari trying to use underhooks. 
Burroughs was put on the shot clock at approximately 1:50 and Akbari nearly had a score of his own before Burroughs squared up, gained position and forced a pushout that would be the only score ofthe period.
2nd: Akbari continue to try to neutralize Burroughs' explosiveness by digging for underhooks early in the second. 
At 4:12, Akbari was warned for passivity. At 4:48 they warned him but inexplicably didn't put him on the clock. Burroughs got position and a push out.
Trailing 2-0, Akbari finally attempted something and Burroughs countered to lead 4-0 that would cap the scoring.
