In an effort to 'modernize' international wrestling in light of recent events that saw the sport's Olympic status in jeopardy, FILA announced last month that it would go to six weight classes for both men's styles (Freestyle and Greco Roman) and six weights for Women's Freestyle.

After the vote to include wrestling as a provisional sport in 2020 and 2024, the Shortlisted Federations Report was released in which FILA's proposal for new weight classes is detailed.

Officially, the new weights will be decided on when FILA's technical commision meets at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, next week.

It appears the old weights would be used for the World Championships, while the new proposed weights would take effect thereafter, and for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
