For men’s freestyle weights were competed on Thursday at the World University Games in Moscow. The U.S. had Nico Megaludis (121/PA), James Green (145/NJ), Ed Ruth (185/PA), and Tyrell Fortune (264/OR) in action.

Day I Results

55KG - Nico Megaludis, Pennsylvania
1st Round: Megaludis had the toughest opening match for the American’s drawing Yasar Aliyev of Azerbaijan, a Bronze medalist at both this year’s European SR Championships and last year’s JR Worlds. But Nico was game, taking leads of 4-0 and 6-2 on his way to a 6-5 final win.

Quarters: Nico lost to Iran's Yaser Heidargholinez. For Nico to enter the repachage, Heidargholinez will need to beat Kyrgystan's Samat Nadrybek.

Semifinals: Nadrybek won 7-5, knocking Nico from medal contention.

66KG - James Green, New Jersey
1st Round - Wrestling Finland’s Petteri Martikainen, who was 9th in this event last year, Green scored a technical fall.

Quarters: Green lost by decision to Ulukman Mamotov of Kyrgyzstan, who was 3rd at Asia's SR Championships.

Semifinals: Armenia's David Safaryan, who was 8th at the London Olympics, beat Mamotov, eliminating Green.

84KG - Ed Ruth, Pennsylvania
1st Round: Ruth was defeated by technical superiority by Iran’s Mohammed Mohammadian.

Quarterfinals: Mohammedian was defeated by his Russian opponent, ending Ed's day.

120KG - Tyrell Fortune, OR
1st Round: Fortune opened up with a quick technical fall of Jonas Rudavicius, a 5th place finisher at last year’s European JR Championships for Lithuania.

2nd Round: Up next was Georgia's Giorgi Meshvidishvili, a 4th place finisher at Moscow Lights at 96KG. Fortune got the fall!

Quarters: Fortune fell to Ukrainian Oleksandr Khostianivsky. Fortune needs a win out of him for a chance at the repachage and Bronze.

Semifinals: Khostianivsky won by tf over Kyrgyzstan, putting Fortune back in play.

Repechage: Fortune went to work in a 7-0 tech of Aleksi Dubko of Belarus, who was third in European SR's in 2010.

Bronze Medal Bout: Tyrell's captured Bronze by pinning Krygyzstan's Alaal Lazarev, who was third in this year's SR European Championships.
