In the match-up that everyone in America wanted to see, it was an expected result, and the most interesting of manners as Jordan Burroughs, who hasn't lost a freestyle bout in over fifty matches, retained his supremacy.
In a best-of-three series in the World Team Trials finals, Burroughs won two straight matches, but in conflicting styles: Match 1 with flash, Match 2 with grit.
Match 1
Jordan Burroughs didn't waste any time. He scored on a low single just two seconds into his World Team Trials bout with Kyle Dake.
A big blow-through shot scored him three a minute later, and at just under the 2:00 mark, he scored a leg lace to win the match by tech 7-0.
Match 2
Burroughs opened up scoring with a push out. But then somehow Dake was able to get to positions he was comfortable in, most notably, a deep underhook.
Dake gained rear standing and tossed out of bounds Burroughs for 3. Then, Burroughs got in deep on a low single for a takedown and 1pt exposure. But Dake wrestled through that position and was rear standing again. Burroughs was cautioned for paddling out of bounds and the match was knotted at 4.
Dake excited the crowd with a takedown from front head to take a 6-4 lead halfway through the period. Burroughs would tie it with head-outside shot to his right at about the 1:00 mark.
Though each were close to getting a push out in the waining moments, we headed to overtime.
Nine seconds in to the extra time, Burroughs scored exposure when he shot and Dake tried to counter.
