Willie Saylor, Editor
Throughout the season, Brute will bring you its National Wrestler of The Week. Wrestlers can be from any age level and will be selected based on their performances from the previous week.
This week’s honors go to Iowans Jake Marlin of Creston and Brandon Sorensen of Denver-Tripoli as they became the state’s 22nd and 23rd 4-time state champions in the long history that is Iowa wrestling.
Both wrestling in Class 2A, Marlin was the first to go off at 138lbs, and he got it done in familiar fashion - with a fall. It was his 147 pin of his career, a new state record.
Sorensen, at 145, was next, and posted a 7-3 win to cap off his high school career.
Marlin won titles throughout his career at 130 and 135 his first two years before winning the last two at 138.
Sorensen's first title came at 119lbs followed by a sophomore title at 130lbs . Last year he won a state title at 132, beating Topher Carton, a current Iowa Hawkeye, who himself was attempting to become a 4x State Champion, in state finals.
