Barry Weyandt, I don't know the extent of your wrestling knowledge, but Dake definitely scored a TD with the double-unders. No doubt about it. It's a TD as soon as Taylor's left hip hits the mat, nearfall could be considered questionable, but there is a 2 count for sure, almost a 3 count. The reversal is a judgement call because Dake tries to avoid the reversal with a Peterson roll, so you could say Taylor didn't have full control. In the 2nd period, the referee starts counting backs as soon as Taylor lets go of Dake's leg and he proceeds to call the touch fall after he swipes the 5th time. Last time I checked, a 5 count gets you at least 2 nearfall in freestyle. Also, in collegiate wrestling, if a referee sees both shoulders on the mat, they usually call the fall. I'm not a Dake or Taylor fan, just calling it like I see it.
Freestyle, folkstyle... it doesn't matter. If you watched the trials, Dake physically man handled Taylor. He kicked his but the first time and he will do it again on Saturday.
Wrestle elite, yes I have seen the match and Dake barely held that double underhook long enough to warrant a takedown and certainly not long enough to get a two count, Taylor rolls right out of it and probably gets a reversal in folkstyle. Thatis assuming that they even awarded a takedown in the first place. Dake would have gotten the takedown on the counter that led to the fall but definately no backs. Even if we give Dake the backpoints off of the underhooks that still only makes the score 6 to 4 in folkstyle, hardly a domination.
Barry Weyandt, Have you seen the Dake/Taylor Match from the Trials? Watch it and then tell us Dake didn't score points when he put Taylor to his back with double under hooks. He had at least 2 near fall in folkstyle. Dake didn't score off his pushout in the 1st period, but he had a TD and at least 2 nearfall in the 2nd period before he pinned Taylor. Even if it was considered a touch fall, there's still 8 points that Dake scores in folkstyle. There were NO points scored off of "freestyle specific turns".
Dake a better technician??? I don't see that at all when I watch these 2 wrestle. I don't care about the match at the trials, I see Taylor winning this, his offense will will beat Dakes defense!
What did Dake do at the trials that would have even gotten him a point in a folkstyle match. Taylor's style is much better suited for folkstyle than freestyle, I think that is pretty obvious. I think it will be a great match but to think that you can take anything from what happened at the trials is just foolish.
