The bulk of Nebraska’s recruiting class for 2011-2012 came in the late period. Getting Ben Morgan (MN), Tim Dudley (SC), Micah Barnes (MN), and Shaun Qae McMurtry in the winter/spring, the Huskers still managed to capture the country’s #11 class ranking.

But they aren’t waiting this year.

On Saturday, one of the nation’s best young prospects, Pat Downey (MD), informed Flowrestling that he’ll be a Husker next year.

Downey was a two-time state champion for North County, Maryland, before he busted loose on the national scene as a Senior with a nearly unprecedented run.

Downey won NHSCA Senior Nationals and Fargo Junior Freestyle at 171lbs in 2011. This year he took crowns at Fila JR’s, and the Fila JR World Team Trials at 84kg (185lbs).

Last month, he was seconds away from earning Gold at the JR Freestyle Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, and received Silver.

For the Huskers, it’s their second commitment this year. Last week they received a commitment from Junior College National Champ, Anthony Albidin (NY).
