It's getting to be that time of year again: time to work on bottom technique. Back to the grind, back to turns, escapes and whistle moves...back to folkstyle season. It was great developing your neutral game all summer, but perhaps it's time to knock off some of the rust and start grinding away on the mat again. In an effort to get you back in the swing of things, Technique Wave will be emphasizing mat wrestling over the next couple months.
Below are some great bottom techniques aimed at supplementing your already awesome technical repertoire.
Whistle Moves
Joe Dubuque's Stand Up (Click Here)
Dubuque won back-to-back NCAA titles not just because he was good on his feet. The dude was an animal on the mat, and I can't remember anyone who held him down at the National Tournament. Check as Dubuque shows the stand up that made him so successful.
Teyon Ware's Sit Out to Multiple Options Score (Click Here)
I'm not a big fan of the sit out, but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. It worked for Teyon Ware, and that's good enough for me. 2X NCAA Champion, Ware, emphasizes the "little things" and shows a somewhat unconventional sit out to shrug.
Building Your Base
Building Your Base with Tom Brands & Doug Schwab (Click Here)
Simply put...this is the best "Building Your Base" technique I've ever seen. Tom Brands and Doug Schwab have absolutely no gaps in their game!
Scoring after the Stand Up
JP O'Connor's Elevator Upon Return (Click Here)
Never seen this one before. Until just recently anyway. JP shows amazing counter work while his opponent is trying to lift and return him to the mat. He caps the move off with a fantastic elevator upon returning to the mat.
Steve Brown's Standing Granby (Click Here)
The standing granby seems like a move that only few can effectively hit. You may think this move is reserved for the athletically gifted and the technically superb. You're wrong. Steve Brown breaks down the move to its simplicity -showing one very beneficial trick that allows even an upper weight to hit this move without falter.
