SO Big Board Notes
Willie Saylor, Sr. Editor
Welcome to the Sophomore Big Board where the top 10th graders in the country are ranked off their results and what we see as their potential going forward.
As the Sophomores begin to get a little more (high school) data under their belt, the Top 50 becomes a crowded place. In fact, there are several guys that are on the bubble or that got moved out, that I’d really like to have in - guys like Dom Demas, Paxton Rosen and Nick Mosco. There are just too many kids doing great things to find a place for them.
Spencer stays atop the pack. Tough to call the Yianni vs. Fix ceiling. They have two entirely different skill sets. But with Yianni winning the head-to-head, putting him at #2 was a no-brainer.
The biggest mover is Justin Mejia. I was once enamored with his ability. Then he had a bad FloNationals. And now he’s back. And I’m enamored once more. Incredible talent, motor, and work ethic. As such, I’ve moved him from #21 all the way up to #6.
Overall there are 11 new members:
#22-Jeff Allen - state champ as a freshmen and posted a win over Tyler Love.
#23-Gus Solomon - 4th at Ironman, Powerade Runner-Up.
#29-Jake Allar - perfect at the Clash and ranked #1 in MN big class.
#30-Quentin Hovis - Ironman 7th with wins over Friedman and Townsell.
#32-Zach Sherman - wrestling incredibly well right now and with a win over Mitch Moore.
#41-Mikey Labriola - returns to the Big Board with a win over Josh Maruca and an ETR belt.
#42-Georgio Poullas - ranked 2nd in Ohio with several impressive wins.
#43-Andrew Berreyesa - Just 1 loss between Reno and Sierra Nevada at 170.
#46-Kyran Hagan - State Runner-Up beat multiple state champions this season.
#47-Tucker Sjomeling - beat Korbin Meink to win Rumble on the Red.
#49-Jake Brindley - several ranked wins this season.
#50-Korbin Meink - Runner-up at KCI with a win over Rosen.
*It should be noted that Robert Garcia (Selma, CA) isn’t included because of inactivity. He reportedly will be back soon.
