1. Strong Island aka Long Island flexes its muscle.
Team X-Cel came to the Pop-N-Flo duals and met up with defending champions Apex in the championship finals. It was a back and forth match that was very emotionally charged and in the end was tied. It came down to criteria and Team X-Cel came out as the winners and team champions.
2. PA State Champ collides with NY State Champ
We had so many great matches over the weekend it is hard to point them all out, but one you will surely want to watch took place between two state champions from Pennsylvania and New York. Check out this thriller between Dylan Palacio of New York and Garrett Peppelman of Pennslyvania.
3. Wrestling for Vinny. Realbuto interview
Vinny Vespa is a wrestler from New York who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. Brian Realbuto and his brother Dylan wore a special singlet this weekend in honor of Vinny. Please help spread the word on this unfortunate story on such a good kid #TeamVinnyV
4. Semi-final clash comes down to last match between two studs
In a rematch of the 2011 Pop-N-Flo championship finals, Apex and Iron Horse met in the semifinals of the 2012 tournament. It was a fun dual meet that saw the momentum swing back and forth several times. It came down to the final match with the team score tied 24-24 and the 120lb weight class which featured two studs, Innarella from Iron Horse and Rodriguez from Apex.
5. NJ vs NY state champ gets hot
During the finals match between Team X-Cel and Apex we got to see two state champs square off at 152lbs. It was James Dakrone of X-Cel and Lennie Richardson of Apex who had seen each other 3 times before with Richardson winning 2 of those 3 matches.
6. A B Core wins the Youth Team Title
The Pop-N-Flo youth division expanded the field of teams from 6 teams last year to 12 teams this year. Not only did the number of teams grow but so did the level of competition. This year it was A-B Core making their way to the finals and claiming the national youth team title.
7. New York State Champs Square Off at 130lbs
On the first day of competition wrestling fans were treated with an all-star match up. Team X-Cel met up with Iowa Style in the second round which meant we got to see a battle between 2 New York state champions at 130lbs between Sean McCabe and Dylan Realbuto. Lots of scrambling in this match and its likely a match up New York fans have been wanting to see for a while.
