I agree with the winning attititude, but I believe the champions apply it to the tiniest detail. Just believing you will win the match isn't enough, you have to desire, often without thinking, to win tiny battles during the match. The champion doesn't hang on for a stalemate, he continues to fight and try to win no matter the position he is in.

to FutureOlympicChampion1 the answer to that is no. It is one of those situations where a square is always a rectangle but a rectangle is not always a square( if you dont understand this study geometry.) A great wrestler MUST posess a different reality, but a wrestler who posesses a different reality will not always be a great wrestler. Mostly due to extraneous factors such as terrible coaching or horrendous practice partners or a total lack of feel for the sport of wrestling, but great question.

This post reminds me of a wide world of sports I saw as a kid. It was a short distance race between a horse, a race car and a cheetah. I immediately thought the cheetah would smoke them and was surprised to see the horse win. I went to school and quizzed my history teacher on who he thought would win. I forget his guess but his immediate response to the cheetah's losing was lack of motivation. He said throw a rabbit out there when he's hungry and then let's see who wins.

Yes I agree, there almost has to be an embarrassment to loose, if not a "hating to loose attitude". The few kids who still have that shame in loosing are the ones who don't loose very often and when they do they always fix the small things that caused them to loose. They try their best to win because they remember what it feels like to loose. The real winners decide they will win before they step on the mat. Once that is decided it is hard to change their mind. This feeling of deciding you will win comes from hard work. Hard work reminds you of why you deserve to win every time. Why would you loose to someone who works half as hard as you do? You just don't!

I agree "it" certianly exisits and is often THE determining factor in high level matches. The coach for Poway mentions that his 103 pounder has the "heart of a Lion" but then goes on to state that "you just can't teach that"
