World Team Trials
The 2011 USA Wrestling world team trials take place in Oklahoma City, OK from June 9-11. This event pits the best freestyle, greco roman and women's wrestling in the nation against one another for a chance to represent USA Wrestling at the 2011 wrestling world championships in Istanbul, Turkey. The USA Wrestling world team trials will have a mini tournament in which competitors will wrestle and a mini tournament champion is crowned. That winner of the world team trials mini tournament will then move on to wrestle the US Open champion in a best of 3 competition. The wrestler that wins 2 matches will move on to represent USA Wrestling at the world championships. There are some exciting stories will unfold at the USA Wrestling world team trials. In freestyle at 55 kgs one of the biggest stories of the entire weekend is the return of 2008 Olympic Champion Henry Cejudo whose first competition since the Beijing Games was in Times Square against the Russians at Beat the Streets in early May where he looked impressive. At 60 kgs Reece Humphrey had an impressive US Open beating former world team members Mike Zadick and Shawn Bunch on the way to a title. 66 kgs saw Brent Metcalf go down to eventual champ Teyon Ware, throw 38 year old Cary Kolat in there and it will be interesting. Will Jordan Burroughs be able to blast double his way through the world team trials at 74 kgs like he did at the US Open? 84 kgs will also have one of the biggest stories of the weekend as 2000 Olympic gold medalist Cael Sanderson will be making a return to action, he will be among a very interesting weight with several guys capable of winning, with Jake Herbert waiting for someone, while 96 kg will likely come down to Bergman-Varner. 120 kg will also be a very interesting weight with 4 guys in there who have represented the USA on the world level; Tommy Rowlands in 2007, Steve Mocco in 2008, Tervel Dlagnev in 2009 and Les Sigman in 2010.
